Mr. William Sim Juay Cheow is an entrepreneur with diverse business experiences. He is a waterproofing specialist by training from Barcelona, Spain and started his first business in 1980 and was responsible for all roof waterproofing and insulation works at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal I, Terminal II and Terminal II, 2-Fingers extension. Several MRT’s waterproofing projects were undertaken by his company and the longest, being the 27km viaduct and stations from Redhill to Jurong. He is the Managing Director of TOPTEC BUILDING SUPPLIES PTE LTD, specialises in cast in-situ Lightweight Concrete and Special Fibers for concrete and asphaltic road’s cracks control. He is also Managing Director of BESCO BUILDING SUPPLIES (SEA) PTE LTD, specialises in HPL’s Toilet Partition, Food Court Table/Chair and “Kotobuki” Theatre Chair from Japan (website: www.besco.sg).

He is a Director of World Toilet Organization Limited (WTO), an organisation recognised worldwide. WTO announced UN World Toilet Day on 19 November was accepted by 193 countries in the world (website: www.worldtoilet.org). In 1993, he and a group of partners set up Australian  International School in Singapore with 32 students and sold the school business in 2007 after 14 years of operation to the UK education group, M/S Cognita when students strength was over 1800 students from about 40 countries.

Apart from his diversified experiences, Mr. Sim is also active in Community and Social Services despite his busy schedule. He started off in 1981, serving for 16 years in the Resident’s Committee and Neighbourhood Committee. From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Sim was one of the first 47 appointed Council Members of the Tanjong Pagar Community Development Council for 2 Consecutive terms, involved in “Fund Raising” and taking care of “Senior Citizen”.

He has been in CDANS-SPANS Joint Investment Committee from 1996 – 2005 and as Executive Committee of CDANS from 1998 – 2005. He was the Co-Chairman of the Festival of Fireworks Committee during the CDANS-SPANS 10th Anniversary Celebration in 2002. He was one of the founding members of HomeTeamNS Entrepreneurs Network in February 2003 and served in the position of 1st Deputy President.

He currently serves as Advisor to SAFRA Entrepreneurs Club (website: www.safra.sg/sec). He is the Honorary Patron of the Nanyang Sim Clan Association and a Fellow member of Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (SIPMM). SIPMM is the organisation that provides the monthly Purchasing Managers Index to the press for publication. He is now serving as 1st Deputy President of Singapore Numismatic Association under Peoples Association’s Hobby Club. He is the Honorary Director of Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan. He was a Council Member of the Singapore Heritage Society (SHS) for 10 years. SHS is an institution of Public Character (IPC).

During the Tsunamis disaster in December 2004 and Earthquake at Yogyakarta & Central Java (Indonesia) in May 2006, he supported SCDF in their rescue operation. He served in United Nations Association of Singapore as Director, Special Project for 17 years and is a Life Member – (website: www.unas.org.sg).

He was involved in the Maintenance of Boeing/Airbus Commercial Aircraft, specialising in Chapter 38. In 2008, one of his companies, Aerofix Systems Pte Ltd, was given the opportunity to demonstrate their capability in clearing an Emirates Airlines’ Boeing 777-200aircraft toilet/galley system chokage in Dubai, and they managed to do it within 30 minutes, which normally took days.

William Sim Juay Cheow is a recipient of the “Paul Harris Fellowship” Medallion award in 2003 for 35 years of community services.
