WHY THE URGENT RUN?
The Urgent Run connects communities across the globe through a run or a walk for sanitation Sanitation is a basic human right.
Yet, 3.6 billion people, nearly ½ of the world’s population, do not have access to safely managed sanitation in their homes. Of those, 1.9 billion people have basic toilets, and 494 million people practice open defecation. The silence around the impact of poor sanitation has dire consequences for human health, dignity, and equality.
Take part to help solve the global sanitation crisis now!
WHY SO URGENT?
Proper sanitation facilities in a country reflect the quality of life of its people. While Singaporeans enjoy easy access to clean water every day, 1 in 3 people in the world do not have a clean, safe toilet.
Without proper sanitation and hygiene services, women and girls are more vulnerable to abuse, attack and ill health, affecting their ability to study, work and live in dignity.
Urgent Run Singapore aims to engage local communities with toilet and sanitation conditions and to join the global ‘movement’ to end the sanitation crisis worldwide.
All funds raised from the race will go to World Toilet Organization (WTO)‘s crucial advocacy work for effective sanitation policies to ensure health, dignity, and well-being for people all over the world.
